Group Meeting

Today, our group met up to get work done on our Video Project. We made many decisions, including what will be said in the video, who will play what role, and how we will ultimately put the whole video together. We looked over the requirements for the assignment as well as the rubric we made as a class. Using the scores we got for the feedback of our storyboard, we tried to improve our project in those areas. For example, we received many 1's for explaining the tale's rhetorical situation. We knew that we wanted to have a modern commentator interject throughout the video to give insight on the tale's rhetorical situation, but we were unsure how. In today's meeting, we decided that the modern commentator would mention that the tale was written by the Grimms and talk about the rhetorical situation at the time. For example, the commentator could mention that the values people had at the time or the audience the tale was intended for. We would also have the commentator show how 19th century values are different from 21st century values.

After making these decisions, we started making the script for what the 21st commentator would say. We decided that the commentator would interrupt the story three times at key locations in the tale. In one instance, for example, the commentator will say, "Wow! The princess is so obedient! She’s listening to the king and is keeping her promise to the frog even though she is disgusted by it. This may be due to the fact that the 19th century had a very patriarchal family structure. The men had the power and the females had to listen. Nowadays, gender roles are changing and women have a voice and say too.”

We fit the commentator part into our overall script, which is the narration of the story. We also timed to see how long reading out everything would take; it took more than the alotted five minutes to read the whole script. At this point, we decided to call it a day and we plan on meeting up again tomorrow. We assigned each other tasks to complete before our meeting.

There is still a lot to be done before we finish our first draft of the video project. We will need to audio record our individual parts, whether it be narrator, twenty first century commentator, or character in the tale. We will also need to create the sound effects that will make the video more exciting. In addition, we will need to find more pictures that will intoduce the tale's rhetorical situation. Lastly, we will need to put together the video and make sure the audio aligns with the right pictures.
